APRIL SCHOOL VACATION WORKSHOPS DESCRIPTIONS: APRIL 15-19

OPEN STUDIO ART  - Ages 7-10
Mornings  9:30-11:30 am. $150/full week, $30/diem

Student’s get to create according to their interests: Acrylic and Watercolor Painting, Pastel, Pencil and Color Pencil Drawing, Pen & Ink Cartooning and Illustration or Multi-Media creations and Mosaic Textile Painting. There will plenty of reference, photos and project guidance to inspire any subject such as landscapes, seascapes, architecture, animals, nature, people, portrait…and more! Individual instruction will be given to develop art skills, including a daily group art activity.

BLOCK PRINTING - Ages 10-17
Afternoons  12:30-2:30 pm. $165/full week, $105/any 3 days

Learn how to create multiple art prints or greeting cards of your illustrations and designs to give to your family and friends. Instructor will first demonstrate step by step how to transfer an image onto a soft block, etch, apply ink and print to paper using single and multi-color process. Soft linoleum, rubber stamping materials and blunt & sharp carving & etching tools will be used. This project requires at least 3 days to finish.

Children and Teens Art Classes

Every child has his or her learning style, ability and art focus interest. Students taking classes at Rosemarie Morelli Art Studio & School learn how to see better so they understand how to draw and paint better! Students choose from a variety of media to create artworks that interest them as the learn the core fundamentals of art. Depending on your child’s interest, skill level and ability, there will always be a project ready to challenge and meet the needs of the student. Enjoying the creative process is most important while your child develops art skills. Students work on their own projects at their own speed. Each class provides individual instruction including group art activities to improve student’s understanding of art.

Instruction is given in techniques for Pen & Ink Illustration and Cartooning; Charcoal, Graphite and Color Pencil Drawing; Pastel Drawing and Painting; Oil, Acrylic & Watercolor Painting; and Multi-Media creations. Block Printing, Plaster Relief Sculpture and Mural Panel Painting are special optional projects that will be made available each season. A stock photo image library and still-life objects are available to help inspire as students flow from project to project, selecting subjects from landscapes, seascapes, still life, portrait, animals, architecture, fantasy creatures, fashion textile design and whatever else interests them. A variety of art techniques and styles will be explored and encouraged from traditional to contemporary including self expression. The sky is the limit!

Adult Drawing and Oil Painting Classes

Join our fun group of artists who are improving their drawing and painting skills while enjoying the camaraderie of creating fabulous works of art together. Whether you are a beginner student or advanced artist, learning how to use the traditional art master methods will help you achieve a more realistic, lifelike drawing and painting. Everyone, regardless of level or ability can learn these techniques! You will learn how to see and correct shapes, proportions and edges; understand and learn to see mid-tone values for shadows and lights; develop rendering and application techniques for the finished drawing and painting; and understand color theory for mixing paint.

Students may work from life or photo images of landscapes, still life, people or portrait — whatever is of interest as you build skills and confidence to take on more ambitious projects, or if you prefer, continue drawing and painting at a fun and relaxed pace. All students receive individual instruction tailored to their personal goals and speed. Students may choose to draw or paint but are strongly encouraged to do both! Bring your oil paints and charcoal drawing & paper supplies to the first class or contact the studio for supply list.

For the art-focused student who craves to create a good “likeness” in their artwork, this class will nurture your child’s talents with step-by-step methods and guided instruction for achieving a more realistic drawing and painting. Instruction on how to render light, shadows and midtone values along with teaching the tools for correcting shapes are emphasized during each project. Whether it be animals, nature, landscapes, seascapes, still life objects, architectural scenes or people, students choose to work from subjects that interest them as they learn how to see and render “the big picture” for setting up a more simple approach to the details such as animal textures, wood grains, fabrics and folds, smooth and reflective surfaces, transparent glass and liquids, facial features, ocean waves…and much more! Drawings are done in choices of charcoal, graphite, color pencil and pastels. Painters work in their choice of oils or acrylics. Each student receives individualized instruction tailored to their personal learning pace and ability. All art levels, beginner through advanced will benefit from this class.

Cartooning, Illustration, Painting & Drawing Studio
Monday – Friday, 9:30-11:30 Ages 6-9 or 12:30-3:00 pm Ages 9+
Learn how to create cartoon characters, animals or whimsical, magical creatures along with understanding the development process of designing a background scene for your story line.  Pen & Ink, quill pens, markers, color pencils and color tint inks will be available to create the finished artwork which will be in the form of a comic strip or fantasy/science fiction storyboard(s). For those who love to paint and draw either realistically or illustrative,  you will have your choice(s) of watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoals, graphite, pen & ink, and color pencil. All students receive individualized instruction including participating in group art skill building lessons. Students choose to paint and draw from subjects such as animals, people, sports, still life, landscapes, seascapes, nature, fantasy art…and whatever else interests them! Summer Art Camp Courses Descriptions
Cartooning and Fantasy Art Fun
In this popular class, children learn to cartoon, illustrate and morph human characters, animals, ordinary objects, robots or whimsical, magical creatures such as fairies, dragons, ogres and more. They will then design and illustrate a background scene for their story line and character(s). Students will be given choices of finishing their artworks in markers, pen & color inks, color pencil and pastels. The finished artwork will be in the form of a comic strip or scene storyboard(s).

Mosaic Textile Painting & Design
Students will custom paint papers for cutting into shaped pieces to design and create a colorful mosaic artwork. They will learn how to color-match tiles and simplify their sketch designs for creating a mosaic still life, landscape, animal, nature, or any scene with imagery that interests them. Abstract design will be introduced.

Block Printing
Learn how to create multiple art prints or greeting cards of your single-image illustration, graphic, text or pattern designs to give to your family and friends. Instructor will first demonstrate step by step how to transfer an image onto soft block, etch, apply ink and print to paper. Students begin with printing a simple image to practice the process steps, then advance to designing and printing a more detailed illustration. Soft linoleum, rubber stamping materials and blunt & sharp carving & etching tools will be used. $15.00 additional material fee.

3D Plaster Relief Sculpture
This multi-media art process uses clay, plaster and paint to make a finished plaster relief illustrating a 3D design or scene. Students learn how to carve slab molds from their planned sketch to cast a plaster relief ready for finishing and final painting. $15.00 additional material fee.

Mural Panel Painting
Students will paint their own mural-on-panel that can be installed on an interior wall of their home or room. The mural can depict a realistic landscape, whimsical animal scene or illustration of their choosing. Students will learn how to plan and grid their design sketches for enlargement and finish in acrylic paints. Mural painting techniques will be taught. Panel size choices are 24” x 48” or 24” x 24” with pre-installed hardware to allow for easy hanging, removal and rearranging. $15.00 additional material fee.

Drawing & Painting Studio
For students who like to draw or paint (or both) realistically, this class focuses on how to create a likeness of a still life or photo image/scene while exploring oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, color pencil, and charcoal. Students learn to see and render better shapes, angles, values, color and edges. Activities will be given to improve student’s understanding of color theory, paint mixing and rendering techniques. Students may bring in their own object or photo, choose a set up in the studio, or from the stock photo library. All skill levels will benefit from this class!

Student’s Choice Art Studio
This is an open studio class offered throughout the summer where student’s can choose to work independently according to their interests, selecting from any of the courses offered. All students receive the same individualized instruction as in the specialized focus classes. In this class, students choose to create artworks in Drawing, Painting, Cartooning, Science Fiction & Fantasy Illustration, Block Printing, Mosaic Textile Painting & Design, Color Pencil – Realistic or Illustrative, Mural Panel Painting and 3D Plaster Relief Sculpture. They also choose to work in mediums of Acrylics, Watercolors or Oil Painting, Pastels, Pencil, Color Pencil, Graphite, and Pen & Ink. The sky is the limit in regards to subject – students can set up a still life or have access to a large stock photo library for reference in landscapes, seascapes, arcitecture, animals, nature, people, portrait…and more! Instruction is art fundamental based to develop skills in rendering techniques and seeing better values, tone, color, shapes and perspective.

Students select one or more projects from Cartooning, Manga/Anime, Sci-Fi & Fantasy Illustration, Realistic Drawing & Painting, Portrait, Landscapes, Seascapes, Still Life, Pop Art, etc. Group and individualized instruction is given to improve each student’s art skills and rendering techniques. A large stock-photo library with everything from animals, people, nature, sports, mythical creatures, architecture, scenery and much more is available to inspire. Choose to work in pastels, acrylics, oils, watercolor, color pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, and graphite. Beginner thru Advanced – Art majors or non…welcome to Summer Art! Bring a soft drink and snack.
